Join us for a panel discussion with Registered Student Organization (RSO) officers who are also first-generation students. We’ll talk about the value of their RSO experience, how RSOs support first-generation students, and the community building that accompanies RSO involvement.

11/08: HR First-Gen Lunch
Being the first to go to college is an honor held by many UNLV students, faculty, staff, and leaders. To recognize and celebrate those accomplishments, Human Resources is hosting a catered luncheon for first-generation HR staff and current UNLV first-generation students with an HR focus on their studies. This is an opportunity for HR first-generation staff to be recognized for their accomplishments, as well as an opportunity to mentor current students. This event is by invitation only.

11/09: First Gen Connect: Tell UNLV Who You Are
Noon – 1:30 PM Location: SU/Phillip J. Cohen Theatre
The-Gen Connect program will highlight real UNLV student stories of navigating college as a first-generation stu-dent. First-year, first-generation students are invited to “Tell UNLV Who You Are” through a social media-style vid-eo. Select videos will premiere at this main First-Gen Connect. In addition, students in attendance at First-Gen Connect will learn from seasoned UNLV first-gen students, faculty, and staff, who will share their knowledge of navigating college beyond the first semester. After the panel, everyone is invited to stick around for a networking event to speak with representatives from across the University about campus resources to support students in meeting their academic and professional goals. We can’t wait to see you there!

To be a first-generation college student is to be a trendsetter. While the path through higher education presents new challenges to tackle and new tips to learn, it is also a time to celebrate your accomplishment! You deserve to be here; you made it! So join us for a collaborative party to commemorate our first-generation students. Music, food, Boba, topic discussions, networking…we have a fun time planned! To show our Rebel community and sup-port first-generation students, the party is open to all UNLV students, faculty, and alums!

2022 First-Generation Essay Contest
Deadline: Friday, November 11 The Black Mountain Institute, The Intersection, and the MSI Student Council are excited to announce the First-Generation Student Essay Contest for 2022. The contest is part of the UNLV 2022 First-Gen Celebration. Details: Essays will be read and judged by a panel of writers and editors at the Black Mountain Institute (BMI) in the College of Liberal Arts. Awards will be given in two categories: graduate and undergraduate. 1st place winners will each receive a $1,000 scholarship provided by the MSI Student Council. Additionally, 1st place winners will be invited to be BMI’s guests at a special literary event during the year. 2nd-place winners will receive a $500 scholarship, and 3rd-place winners will receive a scholarship of $300. Scholarships are provided by MSI Student Council and supported by Black Mountain Institute.
